Reading Candlestick Charts: The Basics That Actually Matter
What a candlestick encodes, and which patterns have reasonable statistical backing.
Each candlestick encodes four data points for a given period: open, high, low, and close. The body shows the open-to-close range, and the wicks show the full high-low range.
Some patterns (like a clear trend combined with volume confirmation) have more empirical support than others. Many named single-candle patterns are weaker predictors in isolation than they're often presented to be.
Candlestick reading is best treated as one input alongside volume, broader trend context, and risk management — not a standalone signal for entries and exits.
